Ruthless, relentless, and devious! These are the words that come to mind for most people when they hear the dread name of bugbear. The bugbear of Vaeria are a race of mercenary assassins that may be hired by anyone willing to pay their price. It is a point of pride that once they accept an assignment they never relent until it has been accomplished or they themselves die in the attempt. Regardless of the duration of the mission or difficulty of their target, a bugbear is capable of exhibiting incredible patience. Once they engage in combat though, they become truly ferocious and terrifying.
As a people the bugbear do not have any real society or homeland. Rather they wander the world, plying their trade. Due to the deadly nature of their occupation, few bugbear reach an age to which they may wish to settle down and retire. However there are some exceptional individuals who do manage this feat and they can be found in nearly every corner of the realm.
Bugbear take their name from their facial structure and claws, which are similar to those of bears. A bugbear’s eyes are typically greenish white with red pupils that appear similar to glowing coals when shrouded in darkness. Their long, tapered ears flow back into their thick manes of hair. Most bugbears have pale grey hides and their coarse hair ranges from brown to black, covering much of their bodies.
